Subject: Institute of Conservation (Icon)
Welsh Launch for the Institute of Conservation Since its formation at the end of last year the Institute of Conservation (Icon) has firmly established itself as the lead voice for the conservation of cultural heritage in the UK. Icon has already made some considerable achievements, including collaboration on the Collections Link project and the success of a one million pound HLF grant for a training bursary scheme to address conservation skills shortages. The Institute aims to advance knowledge and education in conservation and achieve the long term preservation and conservation of cultural heritage. It does this by providing guidance, advocacy, training and education opportunities and by uniting the conservation profession and the wider heritage community. As a charity, Icon is committed to public benefit through promoting public understanding of and access to all the diverse elements of cultural heritage. The Welsh launch of the Institute of Conservation will be held at the National Museum Cardiff on the 12 September 2006, 6-8pm. Nick Poole, MDA Director, will be joining us to talk about Collections Link, the national advisory service for collections management, and Carol Brown, ICON Training Development Manager, will speak about the training bursary scheme. There will also be a CPD training event before the launch on the topic of digital preservation. This will begin at 3.30 pm and run until the start of the evening event. Further details about the running order will be sent shortly. All those with an interest in the care and conservation of collections and cultural heritage are invited to celebrate the formation of Icon and its achievements.
