The Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), with facilities at the Getty
Center in Los Angeles, California and at the Getty Villa (the former
J. Paul Getty Museum, Malibu), is an operating program of the J.
Paul Getty Trust that serves the international conservation field by
working strategically to advance practice in the profession.
Activities include scientific research, education and training,
dissemination of information, and carefully selected field projects,
all directed towards unsolved problems in the conservation field.

The GCI Science department is seeking a Senior Scientist for the
Inorganic Materials Research Lab at the Getty Center.  Reporting to
the Chief Scientist, the Senior Scientist will work in collaboration
with conservators and Science department staff and will manage
complex research projects involving the study of inorganic materials
with an emphasis on porous building materials.  The Senior Scientist
oversees a staff composed of approximately five scientists,
technicians and interns.

The ideal candidate should be a high-level contributor to the field
of conservation science who is able to apply his/her advanced
knowledge of scientific research as it relates to art conservation.
S/he should be a creative thinker who has the ability to work
effectively with experts, scholars and colleagues from a wide
variety of disciplines.

A minimum of seven years experience in scientific research is
required; experience in the scientific analysis of inorganic
materials and expertise in field applications of research results in
architecture and archaeological sites is preferred.  The ideal
candidate should display a demonstrated ability to manage people,
research and budgets.  Knowledge in one or more foreign languages
and a doctorate degree in chemistry or other natural science are
preferred.  An excellent benefits package and salary commensurate
