Biltmore Estate

Biltmore Estate, in Asheville, North Carolina, invites applicants
for the position of Conservation Technician for a multiple room
restoration project. This position will assist with the examination,
technical analysis, conservation research, treatment, and
documentation of items including the categories of furniture,
architectural elements and decorative objects from Biltmore's
permanent collection in accordance with the A.I.C. Ethics and
Standards guidelines.  The Conservation Technician will also assist
in curatorial departmental duties including preventive care and
maintenance of the collections.  This is a part-time position
working approximately twenty hours per week Monday through Friday
during business hours for a one-year term with the possibility of
renewal for a second year.  Wages will be based on qualifications.

This position requires a high school diploma (or GED) and some
demonstrated experience in preservation and historic artifacts. A
four-year degree in Art, Art History, or Chemistry is preferred
along with demonstrated word processing and photographic technique
skills.  This position requires excellent manual dexterity, great
attention to detail, and a demonstration of hand skills; exceptional
oral and written communication skills, creative problem solving
abilities; and the ability to wear a respirator as necessary when
working with certain chemicals.  Physical requirements include the
ability to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally, climb ladders and
scaffolding, occasionally work in extreme temperatures, and operate
box trucks.  A valid NC Driver's License (or the ability to obtain
