The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston seeks a full-time Assistant
Conservator in the area of Preventative Conservation in the
Department of Conservation and Collections Management.  Under the
general direction of the Head of Scientific Research, the successful
candidate will perform analytical and monitoring duties and provide
technical assistance to promote best practices throughout the Museum
for long-term preservation of its collections.  He or she will
develop and maintain environmental monitoring systems to serve as a
framework for the specification and maintenance of proper
preservation environments throughout the Museum's facilities;
electronically archive environmental monitoring data; receive,
research, prepare, and test material samples related to preservation
initiatives, exhibitions, and other proposed construction projects
to ensure that preservation environments are not compromised by the
presence of harmful chemical compounds within construction materials
and other materials introduced into the preservation environment;
electronically archive materials testing data and maintain physical
archive of test samples; develop and maintain integrated pest
management programs to serve museum-wide pest management
initiatives; maintain associated electronic recordkeeping systems,
and provide spot monitoring and identification of pests of museum
collections and structural pests; perform inert atmosphere
fumigations (Ageless anoxia) to disinfest accessioned museum
objects; review AAM standard Facility Reports in advance of outgoing
loans, to assess the quality of borrower's preservation
environments, and their ability to effectively care for the Museum's
collections; incorporate comments into the collections database.

Candidates must have a Master's degree from a recognized graduate
conservation training program, and at least one year of
post-training experience or a 4-year post-secondary degree in an
arts or science field, along with a minimum of five (5) years
experience in museum collections care, preventive conservation, or
conservation science.

Knowledge of and experience with HVAC and other mechanical systems
preferred.

Candidate should have excellent analytical and computer skills.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
