Deadline: for Abstracts Aug 15, 2006

With museums competing increasingly for visitors, exhibition
projects are growing in number and in dimension. Therefore, more and
more conservators are involved in preparing works of art for
exhibitions and loans, sometimes on a tight schedule.

At the same time, there is a lack of methods and tools that are
easily applicable across different collections for the purpose of
establishing reproducible condition surveys before and after a loan
process.

In recent years some tools have been developed that register single
stress factors such as cumulative light exposure and that allow for
a long-term monitoring of preservation conditions. Significant
progress has also been made in the documentation of surface
topographies, color and texture.

The workshop will bring together experts and decision makers in a
discussion about current approaches to the care of artworks during
loan traffic.

Concept and Themes

The seminar will consist of several invited lectures by
international experts in the field. Major topics that will be
addressed include:

    Recording the condition of artefacts
The impact of environmental parameters during transport
The impact of light on artefacts
Risk management and sustainability of condition data

During the second day of the seminar, round table discussions
focusing on these main topics will provide opportunities for
exchange between the invited lecturers and the workshop
participants.

Papers are accepted. Some of them will be selected for oral
presentation, the remaining ones may be presented as posters.

Registration: The registration fee is 100 Euro. The costs include
information materials, assistance to the sessions and coffee breaks.
After August 15, 2006, the registration fee will be 150 Euro.
Registration will be limited to 100 participants.
