September 25-30, 2006

The Smithsonian Associates and The Society of Gilders are
co-sponsoring a week long conference on all aspects of gilding
conservation and restoration. The conference takes place during the
last week of September 2006 at the Smithsonian Institution in
Washington DC and is titled "Gilding at the Smithsonian 2006".

This unique event features hands on classes and workshops in water
gilding, oil gilding, frame conservation, mold making, toning,
manuscript illumination and gilding on glass. In addition, there is
a lecture series in the afternoons and evenings featuring Andrew
Lins, Mark Rabinowitz, Hugh Phibbs, Hubert Baija and other well
respected conservators and practitioners from across the US and
overseas. There are also tours offered of the Washington Monument,
the National Gallery and the Phillips Collection as part of the
program.
