Subject: Conference on gilding
"Gilding at the Smithsonian 2006" September 25-30, 2006 The Smithsonian Associates and The Society of Gilders are co-sponsoring a week long conference on all aspects of gilding conservation and restoration. The conference takes place during the last week of September 2006 at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC and is titled "Gilding at the Smithsonian 2006". This unique event features hands on classes and workshops in water gilding, oil gilding, frame conservation, mold making, toning, manuscript illumination and gilding on glass. In addition, there is a lecture series in the afternoons and evenings featuring Andrew Lins, Mark Rabinowitz, Hugh Phibbs, Hubert Baija and other well respected conservators and practitioners from across the US and overseas. There are also tours offered of the Washington Monument, the National Gallery and the Phillips Collection as part of the program.
