Position at British Museum

From: Karen Beck <kbeck>
Date: Tuesday, June 13, 2006
Head of Science Group
The British Museum
Central London

Salary UKP39,382 - UKP50,945

The British Museum seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic and experienced
individual to lead the Science Group at a time when it is extremely
well placed to face the challenges of the future.

As Head of Science, you will implement a complete strategy for our
scientific function: a remit that includes conservation-related
issues and archaeometric studies of the Collection. Reporting to the
Keeper of Conservation, Documentation and Science, and working with
conservators and curators from the broad range of collections at the
Museum, you will help us deliver a first-class research programme
and scientific support for conservation and curatorial enquiry. You
will provide inspirational leadership and direction to a growing
team of full-time scientists and visiting researchers, while
developing and maintaining relationships with the wider scientific
community in museums and universities in the UK and beyond.

A well-qualified scientist, you will have a strong track-record of
working with historical artefacts at a senior level. Ideally coming
from the museum and heritage sector, you will have shown that you
can manage people, projects and budgets with real success. A
recognised figure in your field, you will have the credibility and
consummate professionalism needed to shape the future of a
world-class museum.
