Chicago Historical Society

The Chicago Historical Society is seeking to hire two assistant
conservators--an objects conservator and a paper/book conservator,
for 5 month term positions commencing immediately. The assistant
conservators will work closely with staff conservators, mountmakers
and exhibition staff, and will be responsible for examination,
treatment and documentation of material in preparation for
exhibitions opening in late September, 2006.  The assistant
conservators will also participate in overseeing the reproduction of
artifacts, managing and maintaining the conservation labs, the
supervision of  interns and volunteers, and assist with installation.

Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in relevant fields, a
graduate degree from a recognized conservation program or the
equivalent, and preferably two-years of post-graduate experience.
The positions require excellent organizational, written, verbal and
interpersonal skills along with creative thinking and problem
solving abilities. Further, candidates should be able to work
independently.
