A day of papers on the conservation and preservation of photographic
materials. The day will also include the introduction of the new
committee.

The focus of the meeting is Photography its origin its present and
its future.  The Photographic Materials Group came out of a
conference way back in 1992 entitled "The Imperfect Image:
Photographs their Past Present and Future". And, in this year when a
small specialist group metamorphoses into part of the Institute of
Conservation we want to mark its passage.

The groups meetings are always very well attended and members are
very friendly and always appreciative. If you would like to offer a
paper or poster may we ask you to submit your title, and a short
abstract and biography by 14 May 2006. If you would like to discuss
your thoughts do not hesitate to contact

We are sure you are aware of the huge problems facing collections of
photography in the UK. The lack of a cohesive collections policy,
preservation and conservation policy is all too apparent as is the
huge shortage of expertise in both passive and interventive
conservation. These issues are issues that the Icon Photographic
Materials Group should champion.

The committee is also seeking nominations for six committee
officers. Please submit names of nominees by post or email, together
with the names of the proposer and seconder to PhMG Chairman

Nominations will close on 24 May 2006.

Nominees and voting forms will be announced on the group's web site
<URL:http://www.instituteofconservation.org.uk/groups/phmcg/> and by
email and post to members. Closing date for voting will be 24 June
2006. The results of the election will be announced at The Group's
next one day meeting which is on the 21 July 2006. The meeting will
take place at the offices of Icon, Third Floor,   Downstream
Building, 1 London Bridge. In addition to a full programme of
papers, to be circulated in due course, the current Committee will
stand down at the end of the meeting and the newly elected Committee
will be installed.
