Conservators (2 positions) Senior Project Specialist and Project Specialist The Getty Conservation Institute (GCI) The Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), located at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, California is one of the operating programs of the J. Paul Getty Trust and serves the international conservation community by working to advance practice in the profession. Activities include scientific research, education and training, dissemination of information, and carefully selected field projects, all directed towards unsolved problems in the field of conservation. The GCI Field Projects department is seeking to fill two conservator positions at the Getty Center: Senior Project Specialist and Project Specialist. The objectives of Field Projects are: * Advance conservation practice through the development and implementation of model projects which incorporate strong research, planning and educational objectives. * In all projects, develop strong collaborative relationships so as to build local expertise, ensure sustainability, evaluate work in progress and broadly disseminate information resulting from projects. * Explore ideas for future projects that address thematic areas in the context of standing buildings and urban centers as well as archaeological sites. * Disseminate our findings through professional publications and conferences; and contribute to the advancement of the field of conservation through the organization of seminars, symposia and workshops. Successful candidates will be expected to conduct fieldwork and research for the conservation of archaeological sites, buildings and decorated surfaces. These projects are located in various parts of the world and will require the successful candidates to travel frequently. For both positions, experience and interest in the conduct of conservation needs assessments, applied scientific research and the development of methodologies is preferred. All candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with small teams, colleagues from a wide variety of disciplines and international project partners to reach the overall goals of the Institute. Versatility, creative problem solving, good oral and written communication skills are necessary. Knowledge of one or more foreign language is preferred. For the Senior Project Specialist position, a Master's degree in conservation or equivalent graduate education and 7-10 years of project management experience is required. For the Project Specialist position, a graduate degree in conservation is preferred and 3-7 years of project management experience is required. A strong interest and knowledge of conservation science is desirable for both positions.
