The Division of Conservation, Harpers Ferry Center (HFC)), National
Park Service (NPS) is seeking an Objects Conservator to supervise
and perform conservation treatment on a wide variety of organic and
inorganic materials from NPS museum collections. This position is
located near Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.  It is a four-year term
position. The Division of Conservation serves as a conservation
resource for the NPS system with collections that include a broad
range of materials that are of historic and artistic importance. The
candidate should have an advanced degree in art conservation with a
specialization in objects conservation, plus a minimum of 5-7 years
professional experience in performing treatments which involve very
complex procedures and techniques or the equivalent experience. The
candidate should have experience in supervision and will be asked to
conduct and organize on-site surveys, training and consultation
which may involve travel.

The conservation labs at HFC provide comprehensive conservation
services in Textiles, Paper, Wooden Artifacts, Organic Objects and
Inorganic Objects. The Objects Conservator will be expected to serve
as Conservation Coordinator on a large exhibit project by
collaborating with other labs and other HFC work groups the park.
Assignments are to be completed assignments under a pre-determined
time frame. Excellent written and oral skills are required. Active
participation in the field of art conservation through giving public
lectures and writing for publication is encouraged. The incumbent
will report directly to the Supervisory Conservator.

The position is open to all qualified candidates and is being
offered at a GS-12 level. Harpers Ferry, WV is considered within the
DC Metro Area and receives the reflected locality pay rate of
$65,048 - $84,559 a year.
