Subject: AIC Angels project
Calling All Angels With the AIC annual meeting fast approaching, it's time to think about volunteering for this year's AIC Angel Project. This year, those with book conservation experience are particularly needed for a project to benefit the Redwood Library and Athenaeum in Newport, Rhode Island (see <URL:http://www.redwoodlibrary.org/> ). The Redwood is the oldest continuously run circulating library in America. It is located just 40 minutes south of the annual meeting site in Providence. The project will take place on June 16, 2006. The goal of the project is to conduct a condition survey on special collection books that were water damaged during a fire in December 2005. The books were frozen at the time and are now undergoing freeze drying. Each Angel will be asked to collect condition information and to work with other team specialists on digital photography and specifications for protective enclosures. Lunch and T-shirts will be provided for all working Angels. If needed, accommodations can be provided in Newport on the night of the June 15, 2006 but you will be responsible for your own travel arrangements to Newport on that day. Otherwise, transportation between the conference hotel and the Redwood will be provided on June 16.
