The incumbent will serve as a team leader or staff technical expert responsible for planning and providing ad hoc and recurring preservation and conservation activities for the office and for the agency, including analyzing, reviewing, and making recommendations to office management regarding NARA preservation and conservation policy, programs, and procedures in areas that have office-wide, agency-wide and government-wide professional impacts. Vacancy Announcement CP 06-034 for the position of Conservator, GS-1001-12 in Office of Records Services, Preservation Programs, Document Conservation Laboratory (NWTD) has been posted on the USAJOBS website. The incumbent will have responsibility for performing a full range of work concerned with conservation and preservation of photographs and related materials including conservation treatment and related research, procedures, methods and techniques for a wide variety of photographic processes, with special attention to those items possessing the highest level of historical and intrinsic value. The incumbent will also work proficiently in at least one other of the following conservation disciplines: paper documents, bound volumes, objects, metals, textiles, or paintings. Vacancy Announcement CP 06-035 for the position of Conservator, GS-1001-11 in Office of Records Services, Preservation Programs, Document Conservation Laboratory (NWTD) has been posted on the USAJOBS website. The announcement opens 04-13-06; closes 05-11-06. Incumbents will carry out accepted conservation treatment procedures and perform highly complex and delicate techniques on rare and unique archival records. Work relates to the conservation and preservation of valuable manuscripts, books and bound archival records, with the goal of maintaining historic and artistic value. Incumbents prepare written proposals for treatment, including selection of treatment procedures, methods and techniques, and materials to be used, based on experience and practical research.
