Subject: Paper Identification Database
New partners needed: Paper Identification Database In paper conservation education as well as in creating collection management, conservation and preservation strategies, it is essential to be able to identify and characterize historic and modern paper materials in storage. The Paper Identification Database collects data for historic paper characterisation and identification. Not only data from water marks, but details of laid and chain lines characteristic of handmade rag paper are also documented. Size, colour and acidity measurements, fibre morphology and pulp type as well as paper sizing and other components in paper and detailed images have their places in the database. The use of the database is free of charge. There are two user categories: one for visitors and one for partners. Partners are allowed to add data to the database. The database has been available on the Internet at address <URL:http://conservation.evtek.fi> since January 2006. At this early stage, we need new partners to join the database network and to add new samples to the database. The database is created by EVTEK University of Applied Sciences, Finland, by Istvan Kecskemeti, head of paper conservation education, istvan.kecskemeti [at] evtek__fi **** Moderator's comments: Please respond directly to the author.
