Conservator for the Department of the South Seas

The South Seas Department is seeking a conservator to take care of
the conservation and restoration of a collection consisting of
55.000 objects (excluding textiles and Tapa). The candidate should
be able to perform independently difficult work in conservation or
restoration on organic materials, also to supervise the conservation
of different kinds of shell, clay and stone objects. Another area of
application is to take care of the permanent exhibition. Also
included in the job duties is the responsibility for the supervision
of the collection of organic materials (excluding objects made from
leather, textile and plant fibre) which belong to the Islamic
department.

Required skills/ Qualifications: The successful candidate requires a
Diploma in conservation/ restoration of Ethnographical objects or
comparable academic degree in conservation. Equally accepted is a
sufficient amount of knowledge in the relevant field obtained
through long work experience.

The candidate should also have experience in museum work. A
consolidated knowledge in material science and -technology, as well
as in conservation methods, preventive conservation and basic
knowledge in chemistry is required. A working knowledge of English/
German is also required.
