The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP),
Trieste, Italy, will conduct an International Workshop on 'Science
for Cultural Heritage'', to be held from October 23 to 27, 2006.

This event will be organized in collaboration with UNESCO, IAEA and
relevant institutions and associations.  Representatives of European
projects such as EU-ARTECH, and others will be present.

The conference will include keynote lectures of a broad content
(archaeologists, palaeoanthropologists, curators, etc) as well as
technical contributions (dating and characterization experts,
geochronologists, etc).

The Main Themes of the Conference will be:

    a.  Environmental and climatic impact on cultural heritage
    b.  Advanced dating for prehistory and human evolution
    c.  Ceramics, glass, marble, metals and organic materials,
        pigments
    d.  Archaeological and urban prospection
    e.  Networking activities
    f.  Large-scale facilities
    g.  Advanced imaging

Training Sessions will be organized by Profs. R. Cesareo (U. of
Sassari, Italy) and A. Sgamellotti (U. of Perugia, Italy), with
state-of-the-art instrumentation based on Non-destructive Methods of
Analysis Techniques.

The workshop is intended for scientists and graduate students
working in the areas of Physics and Mathematics, and their
applications in Cultural Heritage Studies.  It is open to scientists
from all member countries of the United Nations, UNESCO and IAEA.
Although the main purpose of the Abdus Salam ICTP is to help
researchers from developing countries through a program based on
international co-operation, scientists from developed countries are
also welcome to attend.  The activity will be conducted in English.
Limited funding (including travel grants) for participation in the
workshop is available for scientists from Developing Countries.
Such financial support is granted only for those who attend the
entire activity.  Registration is free-of-charge.

Those wishing to apply should complete and return the "Request for
Participation" form, to be found at

Applicants are urged to submit, together with the application, a
one-page abstract of their research work, which will be refereed by
a Scientific Committee.

The Request for Participation (complete with a recent picture and
signature) should be returned by June 25, 2006 and sent
