You are invited to apply for this recently upgraded post in Historic
Scotland's Technical Conservation Research and Education Division.
You will be based at The Historic Scotland Conservation Centre
(HSCC), currently at South Gyle, Edinburgh. HSCC has recently
re-organised its conservation sections with the former Easel
Paintings and Structural Paintings Units being merged into one new
group, now called 'Painted Surfaces'. You will play an important
part within this new unit and be expected to show a degree of
flexibility in conservation treatments across a wide range of
painted surfaces.

You will primarily be involved in the conservation of structural
paintings in the form of ceiling and wall paintings of various
periods, styles and techniques; research and investigation into
interior decorative schemes of historic or architectural importance.
Over the next two to three years particular importance will be
placed on the completion of the paint investigation work for
Historic Scotland's major re-display project at Stirling Castle. You
will maintain records of methods and materials used, the sequence
and results of treatments employed and compilation of  final
illustrated reports etc. both working as an individual as well as
part of a team.

You should have a recognised qualification in conservation and be
able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in conservation practices
since graduation with considerable experience of conservation
project work.  Possession of a current UK driving license is
essential.  Experience of working on painted or structural timbers
would be a distinct advantage.  An ability to work at heights is
also required.

Salary is performance related and will be  in the Band D range
(UKP25,622 to UKP31,131).  This is a permanent and pensionable
appointment.
