Workshop on conservation of papyrus Centro del Bel Libro Ascona, Switzerland March 10 - April 13, 2006 By Mag. Andrea Donau, Conservator of the Papyrus Collection at the National Library of Austria In this course the very unique and sensitive material papyrus will be introduced. Theoretical aspects of this fascinating topic are: the manufacture of papyrus, the quality of the raw material, the use and conditions of papyri (age and archeological site), the history of the "Vienna Collection", ink, pigments and dyes as well as preservation and housing. The participants will get the chance to treat small papyrus fragments and thus experience the handling and treatment of this special material. Language will be German and English.
