The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County seeks applicants
for six Collections Technician temporary positions. Collections
Technician Temps will assist Anthropology Collections Manager,
Registrars and Conservators in handling and moving Native American
objects during exhibit de-installation and collections move. Duties
include assisting with the de-installation of museum's Native
American Hall, condition reporting, packing and moving of Native
American collections objects, collections re-housing and updating
the computerized collections database and shelf list.

This position has the following requirements:

    1.  Bachelor's degree (some postgraduate work preferred) in
        anthropology, archaeology, art history, museum studies or a
        related field and/or equivalent experience working with
        ethnographic and/or archaeological materials (experience
        working with Native American objects desired).

    2.  Experience and skill in ethnographic/archaeological object
        handling, museum registration, conservation and/or related
        museum experience.

    3.  Previous experience in packing and moving museum objects is
        highly desirable.

    4.  Must work well as a member of a fast moving team, complete
        assignments carefully and quickly and have good spoken and
        written communication skills and excellent attention to
        detail.

    5.  Must also be able and willing to stand for long periods of
        time, lift heavy objects, work with hand and power tools,
        etc. as required.

    6.  Computer skills (including knowledge of Microsoft office,
        Access, Photoshop and Filemaker Pro) required for some of
        the positions.

These are full-time, temporary, non-exempt, overtime eligible
positions and do not offer benefits. The durations of the positions
are projected to be between 6 and 13 weeks, starting in March and
April of 2006.

Salary range $15-17 per hour depending on experience.  No relocation
offered.
