Note: This is a term appointment that is expected to end one year
after the date of hire.

Duties and Responsibilities: Working in the Weissman Preservation
Center and Houghton Library, the Conservation Technician for
Houghton Library Collections treats, and prepares for exhibition,
Houghton Library holdings. The incumbent supports exhibition
activities within Houghton Library; fabricates cradles; mats,
hinges, and frames; mounts exhibits.  The incumbent prepares
condition and treatment reports that may include
photo-documentation; performs a range of basic and routine book and
paper conservation treatments; constructs protective enclosures for
special collections, measures materials for commercial boxing, and
performs other routine collection re-housing; under the supervision
of a Conservator, works with other staff members on larger
conservation projects involving multiple objects; maintains supply
and tool inventories; participates in library disaster recoveries;
assists with condition surveys, environmental monitoring, and other
duties as required.

Requirements: High school diploma required. Bachelor's degree
preferred. Training in book binding and paper repair through a
formal training program or on-the-job training required. Experience
in a recognized conservation facility required. Experience treating
special collections preferred. Keyboarding skills and ability to
prepare short reports using word processing, spreadsheets, and email
programs is needed. Must have superior manual dexterity and a
demonstrated ability to perform duties accurately and precisely.
Must have strong organizational skills, including the ability to
work within established priorities and to achieve goals. The ability
to handle sharp tools, lift up to 30 lbs., perform repetitive tasks,
and escort materials to other buildings is required. Must be able to
adapt to change, analyze and solve problems, and work
collaboratively with others. Excellent communication skills are
essential.
