Library Faculty Fellowship Appalachian State University The ASU Library Faculty Fellowship offers a faculty appointment to a qualified individual with appropriate education and/or experience. This faculty position may be in any of the following areas of specialization within the Library: Cataloging and metadata Collection development Digital initiatives and preservation Special collections outreach Reference and instruction or Public relations All applicants will be considered, but priority consideration will be given to those with the appropriate credentials that could lead to appointment in at least one of the above mentioned specializations. Candidates with life experiences unique to underrepresented student and faculty populations at Appalachian State University are strongly encouraged to apply. Qualifications include an ALA-accredited master's degree in library and information science or in a field related to archival studies, a strong commitment to achieving diversity within a university community, a strong service orientation, evidence of potential in librarianship, information science, or archival science, as well as in library instruction, scholarship, and service, and excellent written and oral communication skills. As a Library Faculty Fellow, the individual will be expected to assume a leadership role in the Library and the University by serving as a mentor/role model to students, developing and participating in programs and projects designed to foster a greater consciousness of diversity within the University community, serving with other Fellows on the ASU Faculty Fellows Advisory Committee with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity, and assisting in advancing the University's goal of enhancing appreciation and understanding of diversity among university employees and students. Such activity will be considered valuable service to the Library and University. Review of completed applications will begin on February 1, 2006 and will continue until the position is filled. This is a twelve month faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The rank of the position will be assigned based on the successful candidate's qualifications. Initial appointment at the rank of Instructor is available to those without a second advanced degree. A tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor requires a second advanced degree.
