Associate Objects Conservator
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art

The Conservation Center of Los Angeles County Museum of Art is
seeking a qualified associate level objects Conservator. Objects
conservators are responsible for the care, prevention, examination
and treatment of the extensive and varied collections of all
three-dimensional art (indoors and outdoors). The museum has entered
a period in which a Center for Contemporary Art will be constructed.
After this building opens, all works of art in its collections will
be reinstalled throughout the complex in new Centers for American
Art, Asian Art, and European Art.

The permanent collections at large, as well as new acquisitions,
will require conservation resources throughout this phase. To meet
these needs, the museum is offering an associate level
contract-based position in Objects Conservation. The associate
conservator will perform duties, including, but not limited to the
examination and documentation of art for treatments, loans technical
studies, acquisitions special exhibitions, traveling exhibitions,
etc. The conservator will be expected to participate in "move" teams
as art work may be relocated for storage or display. The associate
conservator will report to the Head Objects Conservator.

Minimum Requirements: Applicants must hold a Masters degree from an
accredited conservation training program or equivalent experience,
and at least 5 to 7 years job related experience such as working in
an art museum with objects made from diverse materials spanning
ancient through modern times. The applicant must possess good
written and verbal communication skills, work well with others and
demonstrate familiarity with workplace chemical hygiene practices.
