Consultant Paper Conservator Sir Basil Spence Archive Project Positions at Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) wishes to tender for a Consultant Paper Conservator for the Sir Basil Spence Archive Project. The Project aims to catalogue and conserve the drawings, photographs, manuscripts and personalia that relate to the life and work of architect Sir Basil Spence (1907-1976), in order to make them accessible for public study. The project will include a programme of education/community workshops, a touring exhibition and a major exhibition of original material to be held at the Dean Gallery, Edinburgh in 2007. The project finishes end of March 2008. The purpose of this contract is primarily to offer advice, discussion and support on treatments, materials and suppliers to the two paper conservators and one conservation assistant working on the Sir Basil Spence Archive Project, ensure the high standard of work is maintained, and communicate regularly with the Archive Project Manager as well as attending quarterly project management meetings and providing six monthly reports on progress and standards. An additional requirement of the post is to liaise with a curator from the National Galleries of Scotland in order to determine the level of conservation required for the major exhibition at the Dean Gallery.
