Conservation Assistant (16 week project) Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts Ref: SC1091 UKP16,553 to UKP19,093 per annum The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts is the museum and gallery of the University of East Anglia. Designed by Lord Norman Foster, the Centre has become one of the iconic buildings of the late 20th century and houses a significant collection of modern and ancient art, given to the University by Sir Robert and Lady Sainsbury. The Centre is currently closed for a major refurbishment and building project and will be reopening in May 2006. The post will assist with the redisplay of the collections and the installation of a major exhibition 'Pacific Encounters--Art and Divinity in Polynesia 1760-1860' prior to our reopening. You will have a recognised conservation qualification and experience of working with objects in a museum or gallery setting. You will also have practical hands-on conservation experience and a sound understanding of the principles of preventive conservation, collections care, art handling and packing. Ideally, you will also have experience of making mounts for the support and display of objects and will have used a collections management system for documenting object moves, condition reports and treatments. You will be based at the SCVA, within a well equipped Conservation Studio and will be expected to contribute constructively to the day to day work of the Studio. This post is full time and available for 16 weeks from 29 January 2006.
