Associate Conservation Scientist
Los Angeles County Museum of Art

The Conservation Center of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is
seeking a full time Associate Conservation Scientist. The Museum's
global collections cover a wide range from antiquity to modern and
contemporary art. LACMA's Conservation Research Laboratory is a
modern analytical facility. The successful candidate's primary
responsibility will be to assist the Senior Conservation Scientist
in the daily activities of the research laboratory. The successful
candidate will examine works of art and conduct chemical and
instrumental analysis using a broad range of analytical techniques
including Raman Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared
Spectroscopy, X Ray Diffraction, X Ray Fluorescence, UV Visible
Spectroscopy, Polarized Light Microscopy, and Thermoluminescence.
S/He will also conduct original research in collaboration with
curatorial and conservation staff for the long term preservation of
the Museum's decorative arts, painting and sculpture, costume and
textiles, prints and drawings,  and contemporary art collections.
Publication in the professional literature and participation in
symposia, seminars and other professional meetings is encouraged.
The incumbent's duties will also include contributing to laboratory
administration and the maintenance of analytical equipment.

Minimum Requirements: A degree in chemistry/physical sciences or
equivalent education or professional experience (PhD preferred).
Previous work experience in a museum environment is preferred but
not required. Must possess good written and verbal communication
skills and have an interest in collaborative research.
