Conservation Assistant Science Museum, South Kensington Reports To: Conservation Assistant Supervisor No. of supervised staff: None A vacancy has arisen in the Conservation Assistant team in the Conservation Section at the Science Museum. The role of the Conservation Assistants is to clean historic objects on open display and inside showcases throughout the seven floors of galleries at the Science Museum. You will assist the conservators by monitoring the cleanliness and condition of museum objects on display to ensure the exhibitions are kept to a high standard. You will also assist with other collection care tasks such as packing, handling and transporting artefacts and preparing showcases and displays prior to exhibition installation. The post holder reports to the Conservation Assistant Supervisor. The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of collections care techniques including basic cleaning, safe handling and packing of museum objects. You will be able to demonstrate good manual dexterity and have a careful, systematic approach to work, especially when checking the condition of objects. The post will also require some basic IT skills. The role will require you to have good physical fitness and an ability to work at height. You will be required to use mobile elevated work platforms and training will be provided in their use. We are looking for a good, conscientious team worker, preferably with 1-2 years experience working in a museum or heritage institution.
