For those conservators without access to mount cutting and box making equipment or technical assistance, it may be necessary to make some simple enclosure or container by hand. Although a large range of commercial products are now available, for the occasions where an item is a one off, of unusual size or makeup, or requires a very particular packaging solution, a simply constructed, easily made bespoke enclosure is usually possible. Paul will illustrate with digital image sequences, simple demonstration and examples, some of the solutions, construction methods and little craft tricks that have been devised using paper, card and corrugated board to make enclosures for a wide variety of paper items that have passed through the paper conservation studio of the National Maritime Museum. Icon Book and Paper Group are delighted to announce that drinks and snacks at this evenings lecture are being sponsored by Rob Shepherd of Shepherds, Sangorski and Sutcliffe and Zaehnsdorf of Rochester Row. Since 1st September 2005, sales of conservation and bookbinding supplies have been moved from Rochester Row to Falkiner Fine Papers.
