Subject: Nipping press
I have a small nipping press that is just over a hundred years old, I think. It desperately needs to be refinished to be usable, but upon close inspection I discovered that it had once been intricately painted with floral designs. Realizing that this had once been a truly beautiful work of functional art, I wanted to restore it as closely as I could to its original appearance. I wanted to know if there has ever been a study done or a photographic record of some sort made that shows the common and/or popular motifs that nipping presses bore. Mine once had gracefully curving lines, curling acanthus leaves, floral sprays and, I think, large bouquets of flowers. Is there a resource that exists like the one I'm looking for?
