The Preservation Directorate of the Library of Congress would like
to invite you to the next lecture in its series on Topics in
Preservation Science (TOPS).

Monday, October 17, Ottar Johnsen, Professor of Signal Processing
and Telecommunications at the University of Applied Sciences of
Western Switzerland (Fribourg) will present "VisualAudio:  A
Preservation Strategy for Fragile Disk Recordings by Means of
Photography".

This talk will describe the principles, characteristics, and
performance of the optical retrieval and storage technique called
VisualAudio [http://www.eif.ch/visualaudio], which provides a way to
extract sound information from a phonograph record without any
mechanical contact.

The lecture will be held from 10-11:30 am in Dining Room A, Madison
Building 6th floor, Library of Congress (101 Independence Avenue SE,
Washington, D.C. 20540).

The Topics in Preservation Science lectures are free and open to the
