Assistant Sculpture Conservators
The Conservation Centre, Liverpool
3 month fixed term contract
Pay band 4 - salary UKP16,547 - 19,206 pro rata to the period of the
    contract
Ref 2005/070

Purpose and Objectives: To work with the Sculpture Conservators,
under the direction of the Senior Sculpture Conservator, in
conserving and restoring objects principally from income generating
activities connected with sculpture contract work. Completing
necessary reports, documentation and photographic records for the
work carried out.

Main Duties:

    To work as a member of the Sculpture Conservation team
    undertaking work principally from income generating activities
    connected with sculpture contract work.

    Assist Senior Conservators in their duties.

    Assist in general housekeeping of department.

    Produce full reports and photography of work.

    When required to work on sites away from the Conservation
    Centre.

    The postholder will be expected to work on external scaffolds
    and also undertake work in churches, historic buildings or
    archaeological sites.

    When required, the postholder will be expected to work on the
    sculpture collections of National Museums Liverpool.

    Where necessary, to undertake training in conservation skills,
    laser technology or computing skills.

    To undertake any other duties of a similar nature, as may be
    assigned from time to time.

    To show the highest integrity and confidentiality in the
    pursuance of these duties.

    To adhere to National Museums Liverpool's Health and Safety
    Policies and Procedures, and make a contribution to the
    continuance of a sound health and safety culture within the
    department.

Employee Specification

Qualifications:

    5 GCSEs or equivalent, including mathematics and English
    language (Essential)

    Degree in Conservation or relevant arts or crafts subject
    (Desirable)

Experience:

    Use of laser in the conservation of sculpture (Desirable)
    Museum and gallery experience (Desirable)
    Documentation and record keeping (Desirable)
    Photographic experience (Desirable)

Knowledge and skills:

    Good craft skills (Essential)
    Ability to communicate with the public and with clients
    (Essential)
    Computer skills, including Microsoft Word (Desirable)
