The British Library is one of the greatest research libraries in the
world. Our modernisation programme ensures that we keep pace with
other international libraries. We continue to set standards with our
integrated management of the nation's digital and printed
collection.

Collection Care department in the British Library comprises around
200 staff, and is responsible for the preservation, conservation,
storage and security of the collections.

It is an exciting time to join the British Library. Our new Centre
for Conservation is due to open in 2007, the development of the
first Foundation Degree in Book Conservation is under way, and new
internships will be funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund.

This new post, reporting to the Head of Conservation Training and
Development in Collection Care, will see you working with internal
and external organisations and individuals to help develop the
Foundation Degree, graduate internships, on-going work placements in
Collection Care, and internal training requirements. The post will
involve working with Visitor Services and the Education department
to enable increased public access to conservation.

You will have some knowledge of conservation either from practical
experience or from having worked in a related role. A good
understanding of higher and further education in the UK is also
required.

You should have a degree or equivalent experience in conservation
and cultural heritage, or training and development, and demonstrate
initiative, excellent communication and organisational skills and
the ability to carry out research.
