Conservation Assistant The University of California, Berkeley Salary Range $31,416 - $37,488 The Preservation Department in the Library with 21 staff members consists of a conservation treatment lab, bindery preparation unit, preservation replacement unit, digital imaging lab, preservation microfilm lab, and administrative office. Staff in the conservation treatment lab, in which the Conservation Assistant position is located, work with the UC Bindery to specify library binding and related services to the UCB Library, respond to disasters affecting the collection, and perform various conservation treatments upon collection materials to ensure the collection's ability to meet user needs. The lab is responsible for treatment of circulating as well as special collections. Position Responsibilities: * Identify and perform simple to complex conservation treatments on books and paper materials under the general supervision of a conservator. * Measure, order and customize protective enclosures. * Assist in disaster response efforts. Requirements and Qualifications: * Demonstrated skill performing conservation treatments on library collection materials * Ability to do neat, precise work in a timely fashion * Effective oral and written communication skills * Ability to work independently and as part of a team * Ability to handle multiple assignments with deadlines * Ability to follow laboratory procedures * Ability to lift 40 pounds * Basic computer skills Preferred Qualifications: * Conservation experience in a library * Experience in conservation treatment problem solving Come and join us.
