SCMRE

>On July 19, 2005 the Director of SCMRE, Dr. Robert Koestler,
>informed the staff that 6 of the 7 Senior Scientist Positions at
>SCMRE have been eliminated. This leaves 1 senior physical scientist
>and 2 technicians. This effectively ends the Preservation Science
>research program here.

Could somebody please give some context to these hideous events and
news from Washington DC for those who live in other parts of the
world and were ever so glad to take note of new research, new
approaches, produced by so many first class conservation scientists
from this institution? What's the significance of this conservation
mega-disaster in terms of U.S. federal support for preservation, in
the U.S. nationaly, and on the whole? Will there be, or not, any
consequences elsewhere, caused by the USA federal administrations
attitude, like for example in relation to UNESCO, ICCROM, ICOM?
