The University of California, Riverside Libraries seeks an
innovative and dynamic preservation librarian to lead a vital and
expanding preservation program, which is currently comprised of
commercial and in house binding, shelf preparation, collection
conservation, reformatting, disaster planning and recovery, HVAC and
physical environment monitoring, and other preservation initiatives.
The Libraries' current preservation program is long-established,
well-supported, and recognized for its conservation standards.

The successful candidate will assume a lead role in assessing the
strengths of the current program and will collaborate with library
departments to provide long-term preservation goals and perspectives
in regards to the Libraries growing digital initiatives, staff
preservation education, and other key areas.  The UCR Libraries is a
member of ARL and is comprised of five facilities housing more than
2,000,000 volumes, 20,000 electronic journals and 1,700,000
microformats.  As one of the ten campuses of the University of
California System, the successful candidate will join enthusiastic
staff of 146 FTE librarians and support personnel in continuing to
build research library collections of excellence within an expanding
and diverse university.

Responsibilities:  Effectively leads and manages the Libraries'
system-wide preservation program; collaboratively establishes
preservation standards; continuously develops and maintains disaster
planning for the Libraries; evaluates and implements new
technologies related to the preservation of library materials;
develops and implements staff and user training programs; represents
the Libraries locally and in UC system-wide preservation advisory
groups, regional networks, and national forums related to
preservation; serves as a member of the Advisory Council of Library
Department Heads.  The Preservation Department is currently
supported by four FTE staff.

Qualifications:  Required: ALA accredited master's degree in Library
and Information Science; or, equivalent advanced degree in
preservation administration or conservation; or equivalent knowledge
or specialized training in the field of preservation and
conservation, including technical, physical, and bibliographic
aspects.  Minimum three years experience in a comprehensive
preservation program; knowledge of emerging preservation
technologies, national preservation standards, guidelines and
trends, including digital preservation efforts and the preservation
of non-print formats; knowledge of disaster planning; experience
with long and short-range planning for preservation; effective
organizational, management and supervisory skills; excellent
written, analytical, and oral communication skills.  Demonstrated
ability to work effectively with diverse staff and within a diverse
academic environment.  Highly Desirable:  Experience with writing
grant proposals to support preservation.

Salary and Benefits:  Salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience within a range of $46,008-$70,500.  Appointment at rank
of Associate Librarian II-Librarian II dependent upon qualifications
and experience.  Excellent retirement system, health, and vacation
