Textile Conservator:

The Detroit Institute of Arts is seeking applicants to fill a
full-time long-term contract position to perform treatments, prepare
textiles and future rotations, oversee installation and supervise
support staff for reinstallation of the museum's permanent
collection scheduled for the fall of 2007. The textile collection,
one of the greatest in the country, represents all geographical
areas and cultures from pre-history to contemporary. The successful
candidate should possess formal, graduate-level training in textile
conservation or equivalent, experience and training required for the
DIA's distinguished collection, good organizational, oral and

Andrew W. Mellon Conservation Science Fellowship

The Detroit Institute of Arts is seeking applicants for a
post-doctorate fellowship in scientific conservation/technical
analysis of materials and techniques of artworks, archeological
artifacts and ethnographic objects from the museum's extensive
collections. PhD in Chemistry or equivalent and working knowledge of
modern inorganic and organic instrumental materials analysis
techniques required. Appointment is for one year with possible
renewal. The successful candidate will gain experience in the
operations in one of the leading fine arts museum in the USA;
analysis research project that results in a paper of publishable
quality is expected. Applications accepted until position is filled.
Salary: $35,000/year plus $3000 for travel related to research
