Having been unable to attend the annual meeting this year, I was
quite surprised when a colleague asked if I knew about the Liability
Insurance presented there. This is an issue of vital importance and
I have heard very little discussion via the DistList. I have to
agree with Gordon and others that this is something I would be very
reluctant to pursue. As he rightly points out my "freedom" not to
chose this type of insurance would be "de facto" malpractice. In
pursuing certain types of bids/contracts this is already an issue.
Since Ms. McQueen pointed out the road less traveled in Britain, I
would also like to hear from our colleagues near and abroad (such as
Canada) as to their position. I feel as if perhaps it is my own
ignorance for not following this issue within AIC more closely, but
I think AIC owes it to their members, and the members owe it to
themselves, to have a much broader discussion.
