Murals

Can anyone recommend an effective and economical method for
protecting a wall mural during remodeling and the replacement of a
heating and air conditioning system?

The mural is 27 feet long and 7 feet high. It was created in
sections. Oil paint on some kind of wood composite board. The
sections were bolted to the wall and have been on that wall for
about 50 years.

Our Library Director does not want to attempt to remove it from the
wall. Removing it looks like it would create a host of other
problems. The project will start with removal and replacement of the
heating part of the system in September, 2005, followed by the air
conditioning system. Any advice on how to properly protect this
mural will be most appreciated.
