Subject: Positions at Andrea Pitsch Conservation
Paper Conservator Andrea Pitsch Conservation This long-term position is available in September 2005 and depending upon experience and ability, could be either an Assistant or an Associate Conservator position. Located in midtown Manhattan, APC has provided superior paper conservation and consultation services since 1985 to an internationally known clientele of museums, artists' estates, galleries, and corporate and private collections. The treatments undertaken at APC must adhere to the exacting standards of the New York art community, which depends on us to provide the highest level of service. Treatments are interesting and varied; objects include drawings, watercolors, collages, fine and historic prints, historic maps, photographs, and parchment. Approaches range from routine stabilization to basic conservation to full restoration and complex treatments of idiosyncratic contemporary objects. The position will emphasize hands-on treatment of a wide range of objects. Responsibilities will also include examination, tracking workflow, interacting with clients, guiding and instructing the studio assistant/technician, and generally assisting the chief conservator with projects and deadlines. Some familiarity with computer databases would be helpful. The job will provide experience with hand skills, technical and creative problem-solving, curatorial issues, examination and proposals, and administration. The challenges and rewards of the position are substantial and will leave plenty of room for individual interests and professional growth. Applicants should have a degree in art conservation or equivalent, plus two or more years' hands-on experience with paper treatments. The candidate should be self-motivated, think creatively, and desire to learn and become a valued team member. Starting salary range is competitive, commensurate with ability, and negotiable for the right person. A full benefits and bonus package is offered. Assistance will be available to attend workshops of mutual interest. Flexible hours are available if needed.
