The National Trust believes passionately in conserving the historic
interest and natural beauty of our environment, whilst encouraging
people to enjoy and learn about it.

A 3 year post has been created that provides an innovative and
exciting opportunity to gain experience both of methods of
photographic materials conservation and of preventive conservation.
The post-holder will be employed by The National Trust but seconded
for 80% of his/her time to English Heritage.  Under the guidance of
experienced members of staff, the successful candidate will combine
valuable "bench" experience in the English Heritage conservation
studio in Swindon with experience of the National Trust preventive
conservation team that enables sustainable access to historic
buildings and collections.

Studio-based work will include identification, cleaning and
stabilisation of photographic prints, glass plates and film-based
material.  The post-holder will occasionally carry out surveys,
in-house storage projects and training staff at National Trust
properties across the U.K.

Applicants must have a good first degree and/or a recognised
conservation qualification.  Communication, team-working and IT
skills are important whilst a high level of manual dexterity and an
enthusiasm for learning about and working in the field of
photographic materials are essential.  A clean driving license is
desirable.
