Request for host sites for Brockman gold tooling course:

Stuart Brockman of the Brockman Bindery, Oxford, will tour the US in
late January 2006 to teach a course on gold tooling. The two-day
workshop will cover skills required to successfully tool leather
with gold leaf. The topics covered will include: gold-tooled labels
on goatskin; the use of line fillets and patterned rolls on boards
and board edges; lettering a convex spine; the use of pallets, both
line and patterned; and, the use of center tools, leading to a
run-up gilt spine.. The methods taught differ from many other
binders and originate principally from James Brockman's six-year
finishing apprenticeship in an Oxford trade bindery.

Mr. Brockman is interested in speaking with people interested in
hosting this workshop and providing a local site. The total cost is
$2400 (US) for a class of 12-15 students, making the cost per person
approximately $200. For further information about this unique
opportunity, please contact Mr. Brockman directly at
