Just as a comment, I once worked for a supplier of conservation
materials, and he developed a problem with his clay bole going mold
and black. After much fuss, and talking to a specialist, we
eventually found out that the mold had evolved a resistance to the
fungicide being used because we had used the same containers to
manufacture and store the bole for over 10 years. The solution
required more than just replacing all the containers and cleaning
the premises thoroughly. We also had to change to another fungicide,
although it was difficult to find one that was as tough on mold but
not on humans as the old fungicide.
