(This position will not be filled until late summer or early fall
2005)

The Senior Conservation Technician prepares and installs library
exhibitions involving two-dimensional and three-dimensional library
material.  Fabricates display mounts, cradles and mats.  Works
closely with exhibit curators and Preservation and Library staff.
Coordinates exhibit preparation and installation activities to meet
tight schedules.  Executes a range of minor conservation treatments
and repairs on exhibit material.  Monitors and makes recommendations
about display lighting conditions.  Keeps detailed statistics
regarding items conserved and exhibited and writes annual reports
summarizing activities.  Communicates with vendors to order
necessary exhibit supplies and materials.  The Senior Conservation
technician reports to the Head of Public Services for Special
Collections.

Required: At least 2 years experience in library exhibit preparation
and minor conservation treatment. Excellent hand skills. Excellent
interpersonal, communication, organizational and analytical skills.
Must understand the practical concepts of conservation.  Must
display sensitivity when handling fragile materials.  Must display
sensitivity when handling fragile materials.  Must be able to follow
instructions, to complete work in a timely and tidy manner, to work
under pressure and deadlines at times, and to work independently.
Must display good judgment and common sense and be resourceful. Must
be able to work and to build good working relationship a diverse
group of constituents.  Excellent computer skills.
