Book Conservator Joint Archive Service Corporation of London Records Office and London Metropolitan Archives UKP21,230 to UKP22,800 per annum inclusive Fixed term post: 2.5 years London Metropolitan Archives is the largest local government archive repository in the United Kingdom; its 78 km of holdings cover the history of London and are the primary source for information on the capital and its citizens. Housing, transportation, migration, health, education, crime and architecture are all key themes reflected by the documentary sources. London Metropolitan Archives is part of the Joint Archive Service of the Corporation of London. Following a successful bid to the Wellcome Trust, we are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated book conservator to work on the archive collection of The Royal Homeopathic Hospital. The archive records date from 1889 to 1979 and include a fine collection of case books by leading practitioners in the field of homeopathic medicine. The books have been severely damaged from a variety of causes including mould, shrapnel, damaged sewing and deteriorating leather. The successful post holder will be responsible for developing a work schedule, surveying and carrying out the conservation work on the books. You will need to have a recognised qualification in book conservation and/or relevant experience. The successful post holder will also have excellent practical skills and the ability to produce a high standard of work within tight deadlines.
