Senior Conservator, Corporation of London, Libraries, Archives and Guildhall Art Gallery Department. Salary UKP29,940 - UKP35,840 inclusive of supplement Based in Guildhall Library we are looking for a Senior Conservator to lead our highly skilled team of 5 staff in providing conservation and preservation services and advice to the Corporation's libraries and, on request, to other Corporation Departments and City institutions. The principal emphasis is on preserving for posterity the City's heritage while maximising the public availability of the collections. In addition to his/her management responsibilities the Senior Conservator is expected personally to conserve library materials and work closely with the Keeper of Manuscripts to raise income, particularly conservation grants, from depositors and donors. The Department's collections, particularly those of Guildhall Library, reflect London's wealth and status over the centuries, with more than 5.7 linear miles of manuscripts plus items in a range of materials (paper, parchment, seals, watercolours) and formats (books, fine bindings, rolls, photographs etc). We are looking for someone with a recognised conservation qualification (or equivalent training) and at least 5 years relevant post qualification experience, preferably in a library or record office. A knowledge of library and archive materials, the ability to manage staff and resources, excellent oral and written communication skills and computer skills (especially Microsoft Access and Word) are also essential. Experience or knowledge of the commercial sector would be an advantage. Closing date for receipt of completed application forms is Monday 27 June 2005.
