Film preservation program
Special screening of "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" with Sony
Pictures film preservationist John Kirk in person.

The University of Pittsburgh's Preservation and Archives graduate
students in the Department of Library and Information Science are
proud to present two special events on May 26 and 27 featuring Sony
Pictures Film Preservationist John Kirk. On Thursday, May 26 at 7pm
at The Oaks Theater in Oakmont, Mr. Kirk will lead a Q and A
discussion of the recently restored, original full-length version of
Sergio Leone's legendary 1967 Spaghetti Western The Good, the Bad,
and the Ugly starring Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach, and Lee Van
Cleef. John Kirk will also discuss how he personally spearheaded
the effort to get Clint Eastwood and Eli Wallach to voice sequences
that were recently restored to the Italian version, remastered the
sound, and renewed the film's glorious wide-screen color
cinematography. This restored version of the film has never been
screened theatrically in Pittsburgh and will be shown one time only
on May 26, 2005 at The Oaks Theater. Don't miss this unique
opportunity to see this classic film and speak with the person
responsible for its exquisite restoration.

The following day, Friday, May 27, 2005 John Kirk will lecture at
3pm in the William Pitt Union on film preservation and restoration.
He will present film clips and discuss the fascinating process of
restoring such classic films as Some Like it Hot, The Apartment, and
Kiss Me Deadly. This incredible opportunity to get a behind the
scenes glimpse of film preservation is free and open to the public.
The Infinity Student Preservation Group, Society of American
Archivists Student Chapter, and the Archives Lecture Fund at the
University of Pittsburgh's Department of Library and Information
Science are sponsoring both of these events in collaboration with
The Oaks Theater.

The Oaks Theater is located at 310 Allegheny River Boulevard. For
