The Virginia Herrick Deknatel Paper Conservation Laboratory
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

Applications are being accepted for the position of the Saundra B.
Lane Associate Conservator, an endowed position recently established
by one of the Museum's great benefactors. The position is in the
Virginia Herrick Deknatel Paper Conservation Laboratory, and reports
to the Head of Paper Conservation. Candidates should have graduated
from a recognized graduate program of conservation or have
comparable experience. In addition, several years of experience in
paper conservation beyond graduate training is required, and
demonstrable experience is also required in the field of
conservation of photographic materials, inasmuch as the position

part of a team.

The various collections served by the paper lab comprise more than
200,000 works of art on paper that range in date from the Middle
Ages to the present and include prints, drawings, photographs, and
rare books. Collections of photographs currently in the Museum (both
accessioned objects and those on loan) comprise more than 10,000
objects in a wide range of media, and include works by Southworth
and Hawes, Stieglitz, Sudek, Adams, Weston, and Sheeler, as well as
by numerous contemporary photographers.

The paper lab is one of nine divisions of the Department of
Conservation and Collections Management, is integrally involved with
a very active program of exhibitions, acquisitions, and loans, and
operates within a context of stimulating and collegial interaction
with conservators and curators. The Associate Conservator will also
be expected to assume some responsibilities for mentoring
conservation fellows and volunteers.

Compensation includes salary and a generous benefits package. For
consideration, please submit the following: a cover letter
summarizing your interests, your resume, and two letters of
recommendation to:
