Postdoctoral position Art Conservation Research Center Carnegie Mellon University A postdoctoral position at the Art Conservation Research Center, Carnegie Mellon University is available to conduct independent research on developing sensors for monitoring degradation of polymers used for making art, books, and archival materials. Responsibilities include determining from current technologies the best means for monitoring physical defects and chemical changes which occur during the service lifetime of the polymer and creating and testing the sensor on real materials. Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. in analytical/physical chemistry, materials science, or physics with an emphasis in sensor technology. The candidate should have an interest in beginning or continuing a career in art conservation science. Familiarity with analytical instrumentation, ultrasound and optical spectroscopies, personal computers, and instrument interface programming language is desirable.
