Conservation Internship American Museum of Natural History Natural Sciences Conservation The Natural Sciences Conservation Laboratory of the American Museum of Natural History is offering a 1-year, part-time internship for a student in conservation or a related field beginning September 2005. The internship will focus on the conservation and preservation of the largest collection of social wasp nests in the world. The intern will participate in the re-housing, stabilization and imaging of the nest collection. The intern will also be involved in production of 'Best Practices for Re-housing and Long-Term Storage of Wasp Nests', which will be included on the image-website--the first resource for how to treat such collections properly. The candidate should have prior experience/coursework in the care of museum collections and/or conservation. The candidate should also have strong technical skills, a high level of enthusiasm and motivation and an ability to work in a team setting. The position will report directly to the Conservator of Natural Sciences Collections while also working in close collaboration with scientific staff and imaging specialists. A stipend of $20,000 has been provided as support for the internship over the 12-month period.
