Part-time freelance Editor
Newsletter and Bulletin for the Institute of Conservation

The Institute of Conservation is looking for an editor to manage and
develop its new look Newsletter and Bulletin. The Newsletter will be
published bimonthly (ie six times a year) and aims to keep the
membership of the Institute in touch with current issues associated
with the profession of conservation, the broader conservation
community and related fields. The Bulletin will be produced every
month giving up-to-the minute news and employment opportunities.
This will be a paid post, requiring a commitment of approximately
110-120 hours in each two months of production. The first issues are
scheduled for autumn 2005.

The job involves originating and commissioning, collating, editing
and proofing a range of news items and conservation features in
preparation for printing.

The ideal candidate will be able to balance a demanding workload, be
highly motivated and able to develop and apply ideas. You will
recognise and implement publishing initiatives, which meet readers'
and members' needs.

Knowledge of conservation-restoration and a minimum of two years'
relevant publishing experience are essential, as are proven writing,
editing and proofing skills. Also vital are excellent organisation
and time management skills. You will be able to work well under
pressure and on your own initiative. You will be meticulous and have
an eye for detail and pride yourself on working to a high standard
and to strict deadlines.

You will be expected to work on your own but you will have contact
with the publications officer of the Institute, a team of volunteer
group editors and the printer and--depending on your experience of
DTP etc--a production editor, with whom you will have to liaise.

Knowledge of rapid journal publication, DTP packages, ideally
QuarkXPress, Illustrator and PhotoShop would be desirable.

If you would like to apply please send a cv and covering letter to:
