American Textile History Museum

General Description: The Andrew R. Mellon Fellowship is a full-time
position (37.5 hr. per week) reporting to the Chief Conservator. The
position is a six-month fellowship awarded to an individual for the
purpose of post graduate practical and theoretical training in
textile conservation.  The fellowship may be extended to an
additional six months at the option of the TCC.  The fellowship is
funded by the Andrew R. Mellon Fellowship endowment administered by
the American Textile History Museum and is designed to accomplish
the mission of the Textile Conservation Center to train and
disseminate knowledge in the field of textile conservation.

Education and Experience: Recent Graduate from a recognized Master's
level program in conservation or equivalent experience in the
textile conservation field.  Must have academic background to
support position as a Fellow and commitment to the field of
conservation.

Demonstrated knowledge of conservation principles, chemistry, museum
practices and a high level of manual skills are required.  Knowledge
of the structure, fabrication, science and history of textiles made
of natural and synthetic fibers is necessary.

Use of basic hand tools and electrical tools for opening/closing of
crates, building individualized storage containers, tec.

Tapestry conservation experience is desirable.

Word processing and other computer skills are required.

Salary and Benefits:
    $13,000 / 6 months or $26,000 / 1 year (plus health benefits)
